Looking for something fun or relaxing to do in Albany? Check out Albany’s Washington Park, an amazing place to visit during any season!

Washington Park offers 81 acres of nature, walking trails, and other amenities. Strolling through the park is the perfect way to relax and take your mind off things. If you're looking to have fun and hang out with friends, go on a date, or just get some general exercise, the park also offers: 10 tennis courts, basketball courts, a playground, bike paths, and open spaces which can be used for bocce, volleyball, croquet and badminton. Just imagine grabbing a group of friends and going out for the day. Where else can you get that type of fun for free?! And for all the skateboarders- there is a newly constructed skate park at Washington Park as well.

Washington Park Lake is also terrific to explore and go fishing. (Swimming is prohibited). Facing the lake is the Washington Park Lakehouse, a huge tourist attraction which hosts in the summer months many theatre performances such as those performed by Playhouse. Check out Playhouse’s Washington Park venue here for answers to the most frequent questions. Other festivities include an array of concerts and events occurring from May to December. In May the park hosts the Tulip Festival with an average of 200,000 tulips throughout the park combined with the African-American tradition of Pinkster Fest. The park also hosts fundraisers throughout the year such as the American Cancer Society walkathon! Those interested in more events can find information on the Washington Park website in the events-programs page found here. Or on the much more frequently updated Washington Park Facebook page found here. Find events happening all throughout the Capital Region and Washington Park here

Another fun thing to do at Washington Park is to discover the history, monuments, and art that can be found throughout the park. Such as the profound King Memorial Fountain, erected in 1893. Lots of history and meaning can be taken from this monument but briefly- the monument symbolizes the stages of life: “infancy, youth, adulthood, and old age” - read more about it (and others) here. The monuments and art throughout the park are great for those interested in these topics and also for students who need inspiration for upcoming art or history projects!

Lastly, Washington Park is a great place for photo shoots! Nature and flowers all around and the lake nearby creates beautiful photographic sceneries. Also check out the romantic footbridge over Washington Park lake. Whether photo shoots for family, graduation, or engagements, Washington Park in Albany is simply perfect.

The park is generally open May through October from sunrise to 11pm and November through April from sunrise to 10pm. Take a 3D tour of the park on the Discover Albany website. Or, click on this
